Abstract

Juvenile delinquency is a disgraceful behavior carried out by teenagers in the form of deviant actions, against societal and religious norms as well as state law. One of the factors that can influence this behavior is self-control. Self-control is the ability to regulate, and direct individual behavior in a positive direction. Therefore, teenagers are trapped in juvenile delinquency because of a lack of selfcontrol. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between selfcontrol and juvenile delinquency in students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang. The data collection method in this study used a self-control scale consisting of 31 items adapted from Damaiyanti (2020), and a juvenile delinquency scale consisting of 36 items adapted from Susanti (2020). The population in this study amounted to 1,119 students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang. The sample in this study amounted to 120 students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang obtained through the probability sampling method, namely simple random sampling. The data analysis method used in this study is the Spearman Rho method. The results of statistical analysis showed that there was a significant negative relationship between self-control and juvenile delinquency in students of SMA Negeri 4 Tanjungpinang.
