Abstract

This research aims to describe the Terih Bathing Safar Dance at the Wansendari Art Studio from Batam City, Riau Islands Province. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative analysis. Sources of data obtained are from primary data and secondary data. The data collection techniques used in this study are observation, interviews, and documentation. The subjects of this research were 7 people including 2 studio founders, 3 dancers, and 2 musicians. From the research results, Terih Bathing Safar Dance is a dance produced by the Wansendari art studio in 2017, which tells about the traditional procession of bathing safar in the community in Terih Nongsa Village, Batam City. This dance has 4 different movements of the procession of the safar bathing tradition. The musical instruments used are Nafiri, violin, accordion, maracas, vocals, darbuka, tambourine, gambus, Malay drums, silat drums, gongs. This dance has 45 floor patterns with 5 male dancers and 5 female dancers. The fashion used in the Terih Bathing Safar Dance is a modified Malay dress. The accessories used are bros, earrings, and red and yellow flowers. The make-up used in Terih Bermandi Safar Dance is beautiful and dashing make-up. The properties used are long bamboo and dulang tied with cloth. The stage space used is the proscenium stage. The dynamics used by Terih Bathing Safar Dance is by changing the level of motion, namely low level, medium level and up to high level, then by changing the volume of motion from large, medium, to small, as well as changes in the tempo of the accompaniment music from slow, medium, to fast. The lighting at the beginning of the dance is white at the beginning of the dance and then the lights go dark, red, and yellow. Followed by the lights become bright until the dance ends.
