Abstract

Polymer injection is an EOR technique by injecting polymer into the reservoir to increase oil recovery. The addition of polymers to the injection fluid to improve the properties of the displacing fluid, with the hope that the oil recovery will be greater. Hydrophobically modified associating polyacrylamide (HAPAM) is a derivative of HPAM which is now widely used as a candidate thickener in EOR formulations. Thermal degradation and salinity effect are one of the factors that cause polymer degradation due to high reservoir temperature and high salinity. The purpose of this study was to describe the time when the polymer in the reservoir was degraded and began to become ineffective due to the reservoir's high temperature and high salinity. The method used in this research is reservoir simulation with CMG-STARS which is then followed by the ANN-Backropagation approach with Miniconda. Then the prediction of polymer degradation was carried out with ANN R xii 2 and MAPE using the Python Programming Language. Based on the research, ANN showed an accurate prediction of polymer degradation through R 2 values that were close to 1 and MAPE was below 10% in the hidden layer with 15 nodes. Gel polymer started to degrade on day 257 and HAPAM polymer started to degrade on day 99. after the polymer is injected
