Abstract
The phenomenon of smartphone use seems to have a world of its own. Teenagers often look busy with smartphones to the point of ignoring the people around them. The presence of smartphones makes individuals rarely socialize with the people around them. This study aims to determine the relationship between smartphone addiction and students' social interactions during the COVID-19 pandemic at SMP X Pekanbaru, with a total sample of 100 students. The sampling method in this study uses the Random Sampling method. The data collection technique used a smartphone addiction scale which amounted to 8 items and for a social interaction scale which amounted to 20 items. The data analysis method uses Spearman's Rank Order analysis. The results of the statistical analysis test showed a correlation of 1,000 with the value of sig. 0.366 (p < 0.05). This shows that there is no significant relationship between smartphone addiction and social interaction in students at SMP X Pekanbaru. This means that the hypothesis in this study is rejected.
