Abstract

This study is a labratorium scale study that aims to determine the effect of humidity inhibitors of red ginger rhizomes on reducing the corrosion rate in pipes. The rhizome of red ginger is used because it has compounds that are classified as phenolic antixidant compounds. The sample in this study was divided into 2 parts, namely the coating of the first sample tapa using a coating, while the second sample used a coating with the addition of a red ginger rhizome inhibitor. The coating process is carried out by the painting method, the coating solution is prepared by making an inhibitor solution of red ginger rhizome extract. The variables used were variations in room humidity, 80%, and 90% and inhibition time of 72 hours, 144 hours, and 216 hours. At humidity, humidity will be checked periodically by looking at changes in weather or temperature in the surrounding area using a hygrometer to get an effective percentage result. The results of the study show that the coating process with the addition of red ginger rhizome inhibitor was able to reduce the corrosion rate significantly. This is due to the presence of phenol antioxidants in red ginger rhizome inhibitors which can make tubing samples more protected. From the results of the study it is also known that, the process of increasing humidity can affect the corrosion rate obtained, the higher the humidity value, the higher the corrosion rate. The value of the corrosion rate that has increased occurs at 90% humidity, which is 0.1362 mmpy, while the lowest humidity is obtained at room humidity, which is 0.0517.
