Abstract

Production problems that commonly occur in the oil and gas industry are corrosion, where corrosion can cause losses such as decreased production capacity, increased maintenance costs and leaks in pipes due to cracks/holes in steel. Factors that cause the formation of corrosion are fluid flow velocity, temperature, pH, humidity. One method of slowing the rate of corrosion is to provide a coating on the surface. In this study coating an inhibitor of rambutan rind containing tannin was added to slow down the corrosion rate because the tannin would be able to provide a protective layer on the steel surface to prevent it from being easily corroded. The results of testing the corrosion rate against variations in humidity and variations in the addition of inhibitors or without inhibitors are calculated by the corrosion rate formula, from the tests that have been carried out the higher the humidity value, the greater the corrosion rate and at room humidity fluctuations in humidity occur because it is not controlled by a hygrometer so that the humidity is not stable. The corrosion rate at 90% humidity is 0.0668 (mmpy), the corrosion rate at 80% humidity is 0.0286 (mmpy) and the room humidity is 0.0477 (mmpy). Comparison of the corrosion rate with the addition of an inhibitor showed that it was able to maximize the decrease in the corrosion rate compared to without an inhibitor. Corrosion rate with variation without inhibitor was 0.0763 (mmpy) after adding inhibitor the corrosion rate decreased to 0.0668 (mmpy) at 90% humidity.
