Abstract

This study aims to determine the lion dance performances in Bagansiapiapi City, Riau Province and analyze the rhythm pattern of lion dance music in Bagansiapiapi City, Riau Province. According to Edy Sedyawati (2001:2) says that performing arts if there are several elements in it, namely 1) time, 2) place, 3) players, 4) audience. According to Schneck and Berger (2006:33) music is a controlled system that organizes basic elements, increasing the size, content, volume, and function of the smallest structure of the ideal sound which contains several elements such as rhythm, timbre, melody, dynamics. and harmony. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews, and documentation. This research uses data analysis techniques, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion/verification. From the results of the research conducted, the researchers gave verification. The Barongsai Music Performance in the afternoon starts at 14.00 WIB until 15.30 WIB, while at night it starts at 20.00 WIB until 22.00 WIB. At the Barongsai Music Performance for Chinese Ethnic Communities in Bagansiapiapi City, Riau Province, they usually appear at various events such as Cap Go Meh, Chinese New Year, Lantern Night, Temple Anniversary, or events in government such as party campaigns. The players usually appear in a procession around the city route or in front of the temples and places that have been provided. The costume used is the southern lion costume which uses costume colors, namely, red, yellow, orange, blue, black. The players in this group are 27 people, in bringing the lion dance performance four dancers are used. The audience who attended was the Chinese ethnic community around and also the local community of the area itself. The musical instruments used in this lion dance are drums, cymbals, and gongs.
