Abstract

This study aims to determine the meaning of criticism of political messages in the 'smart candidates' version of Djarum 76 cigarette advertisements. This study uses a qualitative method that aims to understand the phenomenon of what is happening in our democratic country today by using the Ferdinand De Saussure Semiotic Technique to find subjects according to the criteria determined by the researcher. Using qualitative descriptive to infer information about the symptoms presented. This data source is obtained from books, journals, internet and documentation. The results of this study indicate that the 76 djarum cigarette advertisement has a critical meaning of political messages on democratic leadership that occurs in our country. Where the current leaders generally do not have a political education background but still insist on going into politics, they only have determination and money so it is not surprising that they still use instant means only for the satisfaction of certain individuals and groups. This has a very bad impact on the welfare of the people if a leader does not have the intelligence to think, broad insight and sufficient experience, because a leader will be a role model and role model for many people.
