Abstract

The problem described in this study is "How is the ability of Class X IPA 2 students at SMA Negeri 6 Pekanbaru in the 2020/2021 academic year in writing poetry from news heard or read by paying attention to the building blocks of poetry ". This study aims to describe, analyze and interpret the ability of X IPA 2 students of SMA Negeri 6 Pekanbaru in the 2020/2021 academic year in writing poetry from news heard or read by paying attention to the building blocks of poetry, namely diction, images, concrete words and language style. The method used is descriptive method. The research approach used is quantitative research. The results of this study indicate that the ability of students to write poetry by paying attention to diction is categorized as good with an average of 72.05. In the image section, it is categorized as good with an average of 70.58. In the concrete word section, it is categorized as good with an average of 73.52. The stylistics section is categorized as moderate with an average of 64.70. Data processing ability to write poetry students of class X IPA 2 SMA N 6 Pekanabaru was categorized as good with an average of 70.21.
