Abstract

Euphemism is part of politeness where language is seen as important to use to maintain relationships between fellow language users. This politeness of language is a very absolute thing or really happens in Indonesian society when communicating. Language politeness can be done by using good and correct language. The use of good and correct language can be done by avoiding the use of impolite language. This is done so that the words spoken do not offend other people. For this reason, the problem in this research is what are the forms of euphemisms in the discourse in the online news of Riau Pos.com? This term is called a euphemism. Completion of the meaning of words is a common phenomenon in society. The theory used in this study is the author uses Sutarman 2017. The research method used by the author is descriptive (to describe or describe existing phenomena). Data collection techniques are documentation techniques and hermeneutic techniques. Data analysis techniques used are collection, grouping by group, presentation, and drawing conclusions. The results of the research data in this paper are that the most common forms of euphemism in the discourse in the Riau Pos.com newspaper are euphemisms that use abbreviations, namely 33, euphemisms for the use of foreign terms as many as 34, euphemisms for metaphorical forms as many as 18. So it can be concluded that euphemisms avoid meaning. ambiguous. Loudness is often found, because the media uses euphemisms for things that are more polite to convey and also avoid things that are not desirable.
