Abstract
The enormous and environmentally friendly potential of wind energy is one of the reasons for utilizing wind energy as a source of electrical energy generation. The use of wind energy as a source of electrical energy generation in Indonesia is still very small. This is because the average wind speed in Indonesia is very low, as well as the lack of research and development of blades that match the wind speed in Indonesia. The blade is one of the components of the wind turbine which functions to convert the kinetic energy of the wind into mechanical energy. Proper design can increase the blade’s ability to convert wind energy. This research aims to obtain the optimal blade design at low wind speeds, and to make a prototype blade to determine the resulting performance. The blade used is an inverse taper with a total of 3 blades. Blades are fabricated using fiberglass. The blade design used the Blade Element Momentum (BEM) method and is made using the hand lay up method. The airfoil used is type S 7075. The blade has a radius of 0,91 m, with a chord value of 0,10 m at the base of the blade and 0,20 m at the tip of the blade. The blade has a twist angle of 22,51 at the base of the blade and 9,86 at the tip of the blade. The maximum power produced by the blade is 3,45 Watt with a torque of 0,50 N.m at a rotating speed of 67,5 rpm at a wind speed of 5,20 m/s.
