Abstract

The research is aimed at figuring out how the totomeh treatment rituals are performed in the Kota Tengah village district of the Kepenuhan province of Riau. Root problem in research this is how the totomeh ritual is treated the village of Kota Tengah district Kepenuhan of Riau provinc?. The theory used in this study is the Koentjaraningrat theory (1987:80-83), which are four components of each religious and ritual involving where rituals are performed, times of ritual performanc, people who perform and direct rituals and objects and tools in rituals. This research uses descriptive qualitative methods that employ data collection techniques by observation, interview and documentary. Studies have shown that the totomeh treatment performed in the Kota Tengah village of Riau province was performed to treat high fever diseases common to minors caused by malady. Totomeh can also be interpreted as an apology to delicate creatures. Ehere the ritual was performed was usually in the home of the witch doctor at the time of the totomeh ritual being performed during the day as the ritual leader was regarded asa totomeh ahaman and was traditionally chosen. As for the equipment the totomeh treatment ritual in the village of Kota Tengah district Kepenuhan provine of Riau covers saffron, knife, betel lime and gambier.
