Abstract
The definition of marriage according to the marriage law is an inner and outer bond between a man and a woman with the aim of forming an eternal and happy family based on God Almighty. But every marriage does not go according to that purpose, sometimes it can end in divorce for certain reasons. That's the fact that happened in Pekanbaru City, precisely in the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru Religious Court. Divorce cases are increasing every year, especially during the pandemic. The main issues raised were how was the divorce rate during the Covid 19 pandemic in 2020-2021 at the Pekanbaru Religious Court and what were the factors causing divorce during the Covid 19 pandemic at the Pekanbaru Religious Court. This research was conducted with empirical research methods that are descriptive analysis. So that researchers will conduct a direct survey of the field. The location chosen to answer the problems in this thesis is the jurisdiction of the Pekanbaru Religious Court. Researchers conducted interviews with judges and analyzed 20 divorce decisions during the pandemic. The method of drawing conclusions used is the inductive method, namely by combining the specific arguments into the general. The divorce rate during the pandemic is quite high, although before the pandemic there were more cases than during the pandemic. However, the increase in cases jumped drastically during the pandemic. The factors that cause divorce are infidelity, leaving one party, because of drunkenness, drugs and gambling, domestic violence, polygamy, economics and the most frequent factors are disputes and quarrels. This reason is dominant because it is influenced by the weakening economic condition of the family which creates complex problems and the couple is unable to resolve their dispute.
