Abstract

This study is motivated by the lack of self-reliance of students in class VIII at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. This study aims to investigate whether there is an influence of professional teachers on students’ self-reliance in learning Islamic Studies at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru. The type of the study is quantitative with a correlation approach. The population of the study consists of 203 Muslim students in grade VIII with a sample of 135 students. The data collection techniques of the study are questionnaires and documentation. The results of the study show that the hypothesis stating that there is an influence of professional teachers on student self-reliance in learning Islamic Studies is accepted with a significance value of 0.000. The level of professional teachers of Islamic Studies at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru is 0.817 or 81.7%. It can be predicted that if the professional teachers are increased by 1%, it will increase the students self-reliance in learning Islamic Studies by 81.7%. Conversely, if the professional teachers are decreased by 1% , then the students self-reliance will also decrease by 0.817 or 81.7%. Before the implementation of professional teachers, the value of constant (a) was 10,184, it means that the level of students self-reliance was very low. The magnitude of the influence can be categorized as quite strong (0.515 or 51.5%), while the remaining 48.5% is influenced by other factors. The level of relationship between professional teachers and students self-reliance is 0.718 or 71.8%, it means that there is a strong relationship between professional teachers and students self-reliance in learning Islamic Studies in grade VIII at SMPN 12 Pekanbaru.
