Abstract

The problem in this study is the factor of students' learning difficulties in learning mathematics in class IV SDN 42 Pekanbaru. The formulation of the problem is (1) "How is the student's learning difficulty factor in learning mathematics in class IV SDN 42 Pekanbaru". (2) "How the teacher's efforts in overcoming learning difficulties for fourth grade students" The purpose of this study is to (1) "Describe how the factors of student learning difficulties in learning mathematics". (2) Describe the teacher's efforts to face the difficulties of learning mathematics in class IV SDN 42 Pekanbaru". This research uses qualitative research with descriptive qualitative research type, the research subjects consist of 1 teacher and 7 fourth grade students at SDN 42 Pekanbaru. The research technique uses interviews, observation and documentation. This research also uses two triangulations, namely technical triangulation and source triangulation. The location of this research was carried out in class IV SDN 42 Pekanbaru, which is located at JL Adi Sucipto, Sidomulyo Timur, Marpoyan Damai District, Pekanbaru City, Riau Province. The results of the study stated that the learning difficulty factor for students was an internal factor which was a factor originating from the student, stating that the factors that influenced students such as, lack of interest in learning, lack of motivation to learn, lack of self-confidence, lack of concentration while studying, lack of self-awareness of students and lack of understanding of student learning. Subjects consisting of 7 students often experience these things, as a result they have difficulty in learning mathematics. The efforts that teachers make in overcoming these learning difficulties are by doing apperception at the beginning of learning, using and explaining the material in a fun way, providing enrichment and self-evaluation of individuals, making improvements and assessing the results of learning tests by giving praise and rewards to students who are able to follow the learning process well. After that, the teacher must close the lesson so that students feel more cared for, because they already feel tired of learning, such as inviting singing and playing.
