Abstract

This study aims to describe the organology of the long drum produced by Tengku Firdaus Alsahab. The theory used by Shaeffiner (in Kadir 2005: 13). The research method is descriptive with qualitative data. Data collection techniques are observation, interview and documentation. The research subjects were 4 people. The results showed that the organology of the long drum produced by Tengku Firdaus Alsahab can be seen from the Inventory, namely the process of making long drums consists of eight stages, namely manufacturing equipment, materials, measuring, body shaping, dredging, sanding, skin installation and coloring. The terminology / naming of the long drum in the Pekanbaru, Siak, Bengkalis areas is called the silat drum and there is a mention of the long drum in Riau Islands which is more popularly known as the sebat drum. The long drum classification enters the type of membranophone musical instrument, which is the source of the sound that comes from the membrane or skin. The history of the long drum yaiu The musical instrument of the long drum / drum was originally discovered by humans in early civilization who had a habit of striking around objects to express joy. The long drum has a cylindrical shape with double sides, 55 cm to 60 cm in length, the diameter of the long drum of the child, the base width is 22 cm (dung sound), the tip is 19 cm wide (no voice). The diameter of the pengibu long drum is 27 cm wide (dung sound), 23 cm wide (no voice). Abah also added a carving in the shape of a winding fern on the body of a long drum if a buyer asked. The function of the drums is to irrigate welcoming guests and at the ceremony of patting the wedding fresh flour. Social factors and changes in traditional musical instruments can occur rapidly in people's lives due to the entry of western and more modern musical instruments.
