Abstract
Therefore, this study was conducted to determine the effect of land cover on the surface temperature of Pekanbaru City. For this reason, this study examines the relationship between land cover, Normalized Difference Built-up Index (NDBI), Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI), and Land Surface Temperature ( LST) from Landsat image data in 2013 and 2019. Correlation and regression analysis were conducted to determine the relationship between land cover, NDBI, NDVI, and LST. The results showed that during 2013 to 2019 there was an increase in the average LST in Pekanbaru City by 3oC. Compared to 2013, the distribution area of moderate temperature (25-28 oC) has expanded to around 20,000.3 ha which is spread over almost all regions. Pekanbaru City in 2019. The expansion of high temperatures is in line with the expansion of built-up areas in the form of settlements and industrial-warehousing. Based on the results of the analysis, it is known that the increase in LST is significantly influenced by NDBI, with a coefficient of determination (R²)of 0.634 (in 2013) and 0.657 (in 2019).
