Abstract
The main problem in the world of oil and gas today is the need for consumption of petroleum products which is much greater than the discovery of new petroleum reserves. As a result, a breakthrough is needed to increase the cumulative recovery of oil using the tertiary recovery method. Surfactants are a type of chemical used to increase oil recovery in reservoirs. The research objectives were to determine the level of surfactant emulsion stability through the phase test and thermal stability with the compatibility test, to determine the value of the contact angle formed through the wettability test, and to determine the amount of foam formed by the foamy surfactant test. In the study the researchers tested surfactants with concentrations of 0,005%, 0,01%, 0,1%, and 0,5%. The salinity of the brine used was sintetic brine of 5.000, 30.000, and 50.000 ppm. The temperature used is 60℃, 70℃, and 80℃. Performed the compatibility test using an oven, analyzed the phase test microemulsion using a test tube for 30 days, analyzed the surfactant foam by stirring it using a magnetic stirrer, and analyzed its wettability using a rame hart goniometer. Based on the emulsion stability test through the phase test, it produces a good microemulsion or Winsor III at a concentration of 0,1% salinity of 5.000 ppm and a concentration of 0,5% at a salinity of 30.000 ppm. A surfactant solution compatibility test with the same concentration and salinity at 3 different temperatures with temperatures of 60℃, 70℃, and 80℃ obtained compatible samples seen from the clarity of the surfactants, namely at a concentration of 0,005% and 0,01% at all types of salinity and at concentration of 0,1% and 0,5% salinity 50.000 ppm. In the wettability contact angle test, the value of the contact angle was obtained in the range of 70.8° to 33.7°, this indicates that the contact angle is smaller than 90° and is water wet. The foamy test produced foam at a concentration of 0.1% and 0.5% surfactant at all types of salinity and non-salinity, with a maximum foam reaching 18 mm and a stable foam height of 7 mm at a concentration of 0.5% surfactant (non salinity).
