Abstract

This study is motivated by the low interest of students in learning Arabic at MTs.N 4 Mandailing Natal because of several reasons. First, the educational background of students are very diverse such as MI (Madrasah Ibtidaiyah), SD (Elementary School) and so on, so that it greatly affects the level of their proficiencies in Arabic. Second, the assumption that Arabic is a difficult and boring subject. Based on the background of the problem, the reseacher is interested in doing a study on: The teachers Efforts in Increasing Students‟ Interest in Learning Arabic at MTs.N 4 Mandailing Natal. This study aims to find out how the teachers‟ efforts in increasing students‟ interest in learning Arabic at MTs.N 4 Mandailing Natal. The method of study is a qualitative method. The data collection techniques of the study are interviews, observation and documentation. The results of the study show that the efforts made by the teachers in carrying out Arabic learning are: paying attention and listening to the grammar used by the students as well as possible, correcting mistakes and explaining them well so that they are easily understood by the students that can arouse their interest to learn it, providing motivation that can arouse the students‟ enthusiasm and interest, choosing the most suitable method with the lessons so that the students can easily understand and comprehend the Arabic language learning, combining nahwu and sharaf knowledge in Arabic learning, providing easy-to-understand examples, carrying out learning components regularly and conducting extracurricular learning as determined.
