Abstract

This study aims to determine the efforts and barriers of transportation services in curbing illegal travel in the city of Pekanbaru. To find out the obstacles and analyze the supervision of the Department of Transportation on illegal travel in Pekanbaru City.This study uses a descriptive qualitative method. Data obtained through interviews, observation and documentation.Public transportation or travel is an inter-regional transportation service using minibuses with a capacity of 8-15 people. Travel or public transportation as time goes by is growing which initially only uses minibus vehicles. Shuttle transportation as intended is intercity transportation with the origin of the destination of the trip still with a non-fixed trajectory and the nature of the service from door to door. Along with the development of time and demand from the public, public transportation is not only a type of minibus but also private cars such as Inova, AVP, Avanza, Xenia and other types of private cars. But not a few private vehicles that are used as public vehicles are operated in the city of Pekanbaru which is not in accordance with established regulations as stipulated in Law No. 22 of 2009. Some of these private cars do not have permits as public transportation. Private cars that are used as public transportation that do not have permits are called illegal travel.The purpose of this study is to find out how the function of the Department of Transportation in Curbing Illegal Travel in the City of Pekanbaru. The results of this research are that the Pekanbaru City Transportation Agency has supervised and regulated illegal travel in Pekanbaru City, but it's just still not good enough to the maximum and the lack of awareness of illegal travel in licensing public transportation or travel. And there is also a need for public awareness to consider travel that is used because official travel has safety guarantees for its passengers.
