Abstract

Corrosion is a problem that often occurs in the oil and gas industry. Corrosion that is not prevented can cause cracks or holes in the metal, if maintenance is carried out on corrosion has a large cost. Factors that affect corrosion are temperature, pH, oxygen content, humidity, and flow velocity. Surface and sub-surface equipment in the oil and gas industry is dominated by metal materials which have a limit of resistance to changes in humidity that affect the formation of corrosion on the surface of the tool. Gambier leaf is one of the organic materials that has a large tannin compound so that it can be used as a corrosion inhibitor. In this study, the aim of this study was to analyze the effect of variations in humidity and variations in immersion time with gambir leaf coating inhibitor samples. Humidity variations used were 60%, 80%, room temperature, and variations in time used were 48 hours, 96 hours and 144 hours.The results of the research on the corrosion rate of variations in humidity and variations in incubation time can be calculated using the weight loss formula, research that has been carried out on coating inhibitors on gambier leaves with variations in humidity and variations in time shows that the lower the humidity, the smaller the corrosion rate formed, at room temperature humidity occurs. Humidity fluctuations are caused by not controlling it using a hygrometer so that humidity is unstable. The results of the corrosion rate at 60% humidity are 0.0053 mmpy at 80% humidity of 0.0064 mmpy, and at room temperature humidity of 0.0088 mmpy, the efficiency of gambir leaf inhibitors is obtained in 60% humidity experiments of 44.77%, at 80% humidity of 34.84 %, and at room temperature humidity of 19.94%.
