Abstract

Paraffin is a deposition or crystallization phenomenon that occurs when the temperature is below the Wax Appearance Temperature (WAT) and the paraffin crystal starts agglomerate and eventually settle to the pipe surface. Apart from happening to pipe, deposition and crystallization of paraffin can also occur in the pores of the reservoir and tubing. Solvent is one of the techniques used to overcome paraffin. The solvent that can be used as an oil diluent is bioethanol. Destination This study was to determine the characteristics of pineapple peel waste as a materials for making biosolvents to overcome the problem of paraffin wax in oil wells and production pipelines. The material used is leather waste pineapple. The method used is pre-treatment, hydrolysis with the aim of convert cellulose to glucose using hydrochloric acid catalyst (HCl), fermentation with the aim of converting glucose into bioethanol using yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae and distillation. The optimum results obtained during the hydrolysis process the variation of acid and time is 24ºBrix sugar content reduction, using a concentration of 5M hydrochloric acid and heating at 100ºC for 3 hours. Results of bioethanol levels obtained after fermentation using Saccharomyces yeast cerevisiae and variations in fermentation time of 1 to 5 days were measured using Alcoholmeter obtained optimum results of 17% bioethanol content with time ferment for 3 days. While the results of the bioethanol content tested with GCMS obtained bioethanol content of 16.45%. Bioethanol 16.45% mixed with waxy crude oil with an initial pour point value of 47ºC, we get a decrease in pour points of 2ºC to 3ºC. To increase the pour point decrease then 16.45% bioethanol was mixed with commercial solvents, namely Parasol, the results obtained pour point is able to decrease by 12ºC with a ratio of the best concentration is 75% with a ratio of bioethanol: Parasol (1:2). So it can be concluded that the mixing of bioethanol and Parasol has good potential in decreasing pour point and viscosity
