Abstract

Students have different resilience in facing challenges in the academic field. If students do not have academic resilience, it will have an impact on resignation and drop out. Efforts made to manage thoughts and behavior in an academic context are known as academic coping strategies. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the three dimensions of academic coping strategies (approach, avoidance and social support) to the academic resilience of Riau Islamic University students. The sample in this study consisted of 400 students who were obtained using the cluster sampling technique. The data collection method in this study used an academic coping strategy scale consisting of 33 items and an academic resilience scale consisting of 24 items. The results of statistical analysis using Spearmen Rho showed that there was a significant positive relationship between the two dimensions of academic coping strategies, namely the approach with a value of r = 0.25 sig 0.000 and social support with a value of r = 0.117 sig 0.019. The avoidance has no significant relationship with academic resilience with a value of r = 0.015 sig 0.770. This means that the higher a person's academic approach and social support coping strategies, the higher his academic resilience.
