Abstract
In drilling activities, drilling mud is one of the important parameters that can affect the success of drilling activities. Problems in the inefficient removal of cuttings and loss of mud fluid into the formation are important things to evaluate in improving the efficiency of wellbore cleaning, so the rheological properties of drilling fluids must be monitored frequently during the drilling process to avoid problems related to changes in physical properties. One of the fundamental problems with drilling mud is of course a shortage which can be characterized as a partial or complete shortage of drilling fluid that enters the development during system penetration. To avoid kick or lost circulation, it is necessary to add additional materials to obtain the quality of the mud as needed. In this research, dolomite powder is used as an additional material which is mixed into the drilling mud in order to find out how it affects the rheological properties of the drilling mud. The results showed a change in the value of the rheological properties of the mud such as, plastic viscosity, yield point and gel strength with values in accordance with the specifications at the addition of concentrations of 15 g, 20 g, and 25 g of dolomite powder. Therefore, in determining the rheological properties of this drilling mud, it can be concluded that the use of dolomite powder in drilling mud can be used as a substitute for barite additives based on the results obtained that meet the specifications.
