Abstract

This research was aimed to determine the effect of Problem Based Learning model on the learning outcomes of mathematics in grade VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu. The research was conducted in the even semester of the 2017/2018 school year. This sample was taken using purposive sampling. The form of this research is a quasi experiment. The research sample was class VII5 as the experimental class which received treatment with the Problem Based Learning and VII3 learning models as the control class that received treatment in the form of conventional learning using the 2013 curriculum. The data collection technique in this study was carried out by the test technique. Data obtained from the results of the study in the form of pretest and posttest value data were analyzed using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. After analyzing the research data of experimental class and control class mathematics learning outcomes, it was shown that the average experimental class mathematics learning outcomes were higher than the control class both in the assessment of knowledge and skills assessment, this means that the Problem Based Learning learning model had a positive effect on knowledge assessment and student math skills. So that from the results of the study it can be concluded that there is the influence of the Problem Based Learning learning model on the mathematics learning outcomes of class VII students of SMP Negeri 4 Siak Hulu.
