Abstract
Welding is one of the metal joining techniques that has an important role in engineering and repair in the construction sector. This study aims to obtain the results of the weld connection on the mechanical properties of the type of electricarc welding. In this study, the welded material is AISI 1010 steel and the electricarc welding technique chosen is Shield Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) and MetaInert Gas (MIG). The results of Shielded Metal Arc Welding (SMAW) welding have a lower tensile strength of 216.58 MPa, while Metal Inert Gas (MIG) has the highest tensile strength of 446.22 MPa. While the highest strain value in MetaInert Gas (MIG) is 7.93%, as well as the tensile strength value, the strain is directly proportional to the tensile strength. This is because the electrodes and SMAW welding types have many cavities so that the weld joint is easily broken and vice versa in the MIG welding process using a method without CO2 or gas which makes the weld stronger. The result of the comparison of the highestimpact price on SMAW is 2.518 J/mm2 and the result of the impact test on MIG welding is 0.449 J/mm2. This is due to the relationship between the impact priceand tensile strength, the higher the impact price, the lower the tensile strength. This causes the weld joint to be broken (brittle) and vice versa MIG welding can withstand impact loads and the material is more ductile the fracture that occurs.
