Abstract

Whatsapp is an instant messaging app. By using Whatsapp, users can communicate anywhere and anytime with people who also have the application as long as it is connected to the internet network connection. This research is about using the Whatsapp video call fitur by the students Faculty of Communication Sciences, Islamic University of Riau. The method used is qualitative exploratory method and the theory used is snowball sampling. The author has 10 speakers who actively use Whatsapp which is the status of student Faculty of Communication Sciences, Islamic University of Riau. From the results of the research, the authors found the reason why the students are more inclined to use Whatsapp as a communication medium, because in general Whatsapp has simple fitur and the connection to the internet is fairly stable, and is also a development of the times. In this research, the author wants to saw how the used of Whatsapp video call fitur and the impact of using the Whatsapp video call fitur. The positive impact of used of Whatsapp's video call fitur is being able to reduce a little longing with family or friends who rarely meet and are also used as entertainment media. The negative impact of the video call Whatsapp fitur is that students or users become less socialized with the environment, then forget about the time spent video call.
