Abstract

Based on Law No. 16 of 2019 concerning Marriage as amended from Law No. 1 of 1974 which stipulates the conditions for carrying out a marriage, it is required to meet the minimum age limit, namely for men and women aged 19 (Nineteen) years, but in reality in Tanjung Piayu Village, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City, there are still many cases of underage marriages carried out by couples who are still classified as minors. In this study, the authors determine the main problems as follows: (1) What causes underage marriage in Tanjung Piayu Village, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City? And (2) What is the effect on married couples who carry out underage marriages in Tanjung Piayu Village, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City?. And when viewed in terms of the type of research, the research uses sociological legal research methods, namely by conducting research directly down to the field which aims to collect the necessary data with data collection tools in the form of interviews and the nature of this research is descriptive which means this research provides a clear, detailed and complete picture of the reality of underage marriage in Tanjung Piayu Village, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City. Based on the results of the research and discussion that the authors obtained, it can be seen that the factors causing the implementation of underage marriages in Tanjung Piayu Village, Sungai Beduk District, Batam City are economic factors, pregnancy factors outside of marriage, parental factors or matchmaking and educational factors and there is an influence on couples arising from underage marriages such as the influence of pregnancy at a young age, the effect of high divorce rates, the effect of continuing education, the effect of domestic violence (KDRT), the effect on reproductive health and psychological effects.
