Abstract

Corrosion is one of the problems that occur in the production process of oil and gas wells which can reduce the value of metal materials in production equipment such as tubing, flowlines and other pipes. The occurrence of corrosion is influenced by air humidity, temperature, pH, and fluid flow velocity. Corrosion control can be done by using organic inhibitors because they are environmentally friendly. Acacia bark inhibitors contain tannin compounds which have a mechanism to slow down the corrosion rate because the tannin compounds create a film forming on the surface of the sample that can resist the corrosion reaction. This research is a laboratory scale research that will examine the effect of humidity using acacia bark extraction inhibitor on reducing corrosion flow rate, acacia bark has a tannin content of 26.6%. The variation of humidity used was 60%, 80% and room temperature, while the length of time of inhibition was 48 hours, 96 hours, and 144 hours. The results showed. Based on the results of the study, it was found that humidity affects the corrosion rate using acacia bark corrosion inhibitors where the higher the humidity, the higher the corrosion rate and the lower the humidity, the lower the corrosion rate. The corrosion rate at 80% humidity is 0.00850 mmpy, the corrosion rate at 60% humidity is 0.00689 mmpy, and at room temperature humidity is 0.01038 mmpy.
