Abstract

The exhaust is an important component in motorized vehicles and is a part that is at risk for corrosion because it is located at the bottom of the vehicle so that it is easily contaminated with dust and dirt. In addition, high temperatures further aggravate this condition. Often leaks are found in the neck of the exhaust caused by corrosion. In this study, wrap exhaust will be used to coat the exhaust so that it is not contaminated with water and dirt when operating so that corrosion can be reduced. In addition, the coating also aims to protect the outer wall so that it is not too high in temperature. Therefore, in this study, exhaust heat transfer will also be calculated after being overlaid with wrap exhaust. This research uses experimental methods in both the research of corrosion rate and heat transfer rate. In the corrosion rate study, data were collected from 3 time variations, namely 72 hours, 144 hours, 216 hours by providing liquid to accelerate the occurrence of carning in the exhaust pipe either by being coated with exhaust wrap or without being coated with exhaust wrap. Data processing in this corrosion rate process uses the weight loss method, then the average corrosion rate without wrap exhaust is obtained, which is 0.000819 mmpy and the average corrosion rate with wrap exhaust is 0.000482 mmpy. In the study, the heat transfer rate used variations in distance, namely 3km, 4km, and 5km with an engine speed of 3500 rpm. The data on this variation is taken on walls covered with exhaust wrap and without being coated with exhaust wrap. The glazed wall has an average heat transfer rate in all three variations is 148.612 J/s and in the uncoated exhaust pipe it has a heat transfer rate of 65,431,503 J/s.This study reveals that the coating of the exhaust pipe using wrap exhaust on the exhaust pipe can reduce corrosion by 0.00037 mmpy because in this condition when coated, the exhaust pipe is protected from dust and dirt.
