Abstract

This research was conducted to find out the types of Lexical reiteration found in english textbook grade XI published by Kemendikbud RI. Reiteration is a type of lexical cohesion in English that involves repeating a lexical item, including the pronunciation and meaning of that term. The term "reiteration" refers to the lexical connection that connects various textual components by employing its vocabulary, namely by either repeating specific lexical items or using equivalent lexical items that are chosen from the same semantic domain. This research used descriptive qualitative method in analyzing the kinds of reiteration. In this research, the researcher using the textbook as the document for analysis and the research instrument based on researcher herself. The researcher used documentation technique to collect the data. The findings of this study showed, there are four types of lexical reiteration, those are : repetition, synonymy – near synonymy, superordinate and general word. In the data analysis that the lexical reiteration found in English textbook grade XI published by Kemendikbud RI are 90 samples. The classificasions are 67 samples of repititions, 15 samples of synonymy, 7 samples of superordinate, and 5 samples of general word. Therefore, the researcher concluded that repetition is the most dominant of lexical reiteration used in the English textbook grade XI published by Kemendikbud RI. It is obvious that the English textbook's authors intend to make the content more entertaining for teachers and students.
