Abstract
Consumptive behavior is the behavior of individuals who tend to be excessive in buying a product, not based on wise decisions and more concerned with desires than primary needs, so that the individual has difficulty managing finances. Selfesteem is predicted to control the consumptive behavior of women as housekeepers. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-esteem and consumptive behavior. The population in this study were female housekeepers of the taklim assembly in Pekanbaru City, totaling 360 and a total sample of 160 subjects taken with area sampling technique. Data collection uses two scales, namely the selfesteem scale and the consumptive behavior scale. The data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank (Rs) correlation analysis technique which showed that there was a significant negative relationship between self-esteem and consumptive behavior of Rs=-0.370; p<0.005. The coefficient of determination test shows that Self-esteem contributes to consumptive behavior by R Squared= 0.130 or 13%.
