Abstract

Fiber concrete is a mixture of concrete plus fiber. Fiber material can be asbestos fiber, plastic fiber (poly-propyline), or pieces of steel wire, plant fibers (flax, coconut fiber, bamboo, bagasse, fibers). This research was conducted to determine the effect of adding sugarcane fiber to the physical properties of concrete, compressive strength and porosity. This study uses an experimental method to obtain the research data needed for the purpose of discussing the existing problems. The sample of this study consisted of 4 variations, namely Normal Concrete, Sugar Cane Fiber Mixed Concrete 0.35% 0.5% and 0.7%. For this research, the mix design plan of SNI-03-2834-2000 is used. The test object is cylindrical size (15 cm x 30 cm) and cube size (15 cm x 15 cm x 15 cm). Compressive strength and porosity tests were carried out at the age of 28 days. The results of the porosity test indicate that the use of sugarcane fiber tends to increase the porosity value of normal concrete. The highest porosity value occurs in 0.7% fiber concrete, which is 17.12%. In testing the compressive strength of concrete, the highest value for fiber concrete occurred at a percentage of 0.3% at the age of 28 days, which was 22,069 MPa.
