Abstract

This study aims to find out and understand how the role of interpersonal communication that takes place in an interpersonal relationship of friendship between a visitor and other visitors who are hanging out at the Teashop is then assessed based on the theory of social exchange for the sustainability of the relationship that will continue or not. In this study, the researcher used descriptive qualitative methods by conducting in-depth interviews with six informants, and conducting direct observations. The result of this study is that interpersonal communication plays an important role from the initial process to the stage of terminating an interpersonal relationship, so that it becomes a measuring tool in assessing a sustainable relationship or not.
