Abstract

This research deals with the analysis of illocutionary acts used by Woody dialogue of Toy Story 4 movie. The objectives of the study are to find out the types of illocutionary acts in Woody’s dialogue and to find out the meaning of illocutionary acts found in the movie. The research on this thesis was on descriptive qualitative design. The sources of data were derived from the script of Woody’s dialogue. The data are presented descriptively because it describes and explains speech acts used by the main character in “Toy Story 4� such as describing the types of illocutionary acts found in this movie. From the analysis, the writer finds five types of speech acts used by Woody as the main character in the Toy Story 4 movie. They are Representative (stating, asserting, informing), Directive (ordering, requesting, commanding), Commissive (promising), Declarative (declaring), Expressive (thanking, regretting, apologizing, and complimenting). The directive is the dominant type of illocutionary act used by Woody’s dialogue in the Toy Story 4 movie, because the speaker to gets the hearer to do something, e.g. asking, advising, begging, forbidding, ordering, requesting, suggesting, recommending, insisting, and permitting.
