Remote control aircraft are aeromodelling aircraft which are generally small in size which are controlled using radio wave remote control by pilots on the ground. One of the materials commonly used for remote control aircraft body is composite material. This study aims to determine the number of layers made of fiberglass on the body of a remote control aircraft on the mechanical properties. In this study, the material used for the body of the rc airplane is polyfoam hybrid as the skin and fiberglass as the core with an epoxy resin matrix. In this study, the variations made on fiberglass (core) are 1 layer, 2 layers and 3 layers. The results of the impact test on a 1-layer sandwich composite are 0.5 J/mm2, the impact value decreases in sample 2 and sample 3 linearly or directly proportionally, namely 0.47 J/mm2 and 0.4 J/mm2. Along with the addition of a layer of fiberglass on each sandwich composite, the impact strength will be more easily broken (brittle) and conversely the lower the impact strength, the more resilient the remote control aircraft body will be. The results of the bending test showed that the lowest bending strength value was in the 1 layer sandwich composite, namely 1.58 MPa, while the highest bending strength value was in the 3 layers, namely 13.26 MPa. This is because the fiberglass material has strong properties which when pressed will return to its original shape because fiberglass is composed of glass fiber yarn.
