Abstract

The research location is included in the concession area of PT. Tempirai Energy Resources (TER). Geographically located at coordinates 20 20 '48.887 "- 20 23" 30.290 "LS and 1030 56 '36.593" - 1040 3 '9.813 "East. The TER concession area is located in Tungkal Jaya District, Musi Banyuasin Regency, South Sumatra Province. The TER concession area covers around 4,570 Ha. This research is motivated by the author to re-prove the depositional environment of the estuarine formation. The goal to be achieved is to know the characteristics of the coal carrier formation in the study area. Make a model of the development of coal depositional environment in research areas and find out the relationship between coal quality and coal deposition environment. The methodology used in this study consists of several stages, namely logging data collection, logging data description, making a cross section of stratigraphic correlation and structure. Correlation is conducted in the direction of the North- West-Southeast and the North-West direction. Correlations made at this point of drill, lithology that dominates namely sandstone, siltstone, coal, claystone, claystone, claystone, mudstone carbonate and a little bit of coal shale. The depositional environment of the study area is Upper Delta Plain - Fluvial with channel, swamp, and floodplain sub-environments. Based on the relationship between coal (sulfur) quality data and the depositional environment shows a harmonious relationship. This is indicated by the total value of sulfur which shows a relatively low value (0.68%). Low total sulfur values indicate that the depositional environment is in Upper Delta Plain - Fluvial.
