Abstract

Oil palm is an important plantation commodity in Indonesia and still has bright prospects for development, both in the form of raw materials and processed products. This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of farmers and fresh fruit bunch traders, (2) channels and institutions and functions of FFB marketing, (3) and costs, margins, profits, farmer's share, and the efficiency of FFB marketing. This research was conducted from March 2020 to September 2020. The method used in this research was the survey method. The data analysis used was descriptive qualitative and quantitative analysis. The results showed that the age of independent oil palm farmers on average was 47.08 and collectors (Toke) 43.40 years and wholesalers (Ram) 43.50 years. Education of farmers averaged 10.38 years, collecting traders (Toke) 11.4 years and wholesalers (Ram) 12.00 years. The average farming experience of independent smallholders is 8.75 years and business experience of collecting traders (Toke) is 6.6 years and big traders (Ram) 4.50 years. As well as the number of dependents of independent oil palm farmer families on average 4.03 people and collecting traders (Toke) 3.4 people and wholesalers (Ram) 3.00 people. There are two marketing channels for fresh fruit bunches (FFB) in Bagan Sinembah Subdistrict, Rokan Hilir Regency, namely: channel I. Farmers → Collector Traders (Toke) → Wholesaler (Ram) → Factory. Channel II. Farmer → Wholesaler (Ram) → Factory. Marketing functions that are carried out are the function of exchange (sales and purchases), physical functions (storage and transportation), and function of facilities (standardization, risk bearing, capital and market information). Marketing fee for channel I to collector traders (Toke) Rp. 30.09 / Kg and wholesaler (Ram) Rp. 34.17 / Kg, then channel I is Rp. 64.26 / Kg and channel II of Rp. 56.11 / Kg where independent farmers are 21.94 Rp / Kg and wholesalers (Ram) 33.17 Rp / Kg. The margin for channel I for the collector traders (Toke) is Rp. 167 / kg and the wholesaler (Ram) is Rp. 90.00 / kg, so the number of channel I is Rp. 250 and the profit of channel 1 for collectors is Rp. 137 / kg, wholesaler of Rp. 55.83 / kg and the profit of channel II of wholesalers (Ram) is 55.83 Rp / kg and the efficiency of channel I is 5.28% and channel II is 4 , 59%. Of the two marketing channels, channel II is more efficient than channel 1 so that farmers can maximize sales on channel 1 in order to achieve a more efficient marketing system.
