Abstract

Steamflooding is one of the Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) methods which is included in the thermal method that is most often used in increasing oil recovery because of its high recovery rate, which is 50-60% of Original Oil In Place (OOIP). Due to the large number of uses of steamflooding in increasing oil recovery, it is necessary to conduct research related to optimization of Recovery Factor & Steam Oil Ratio (SOR) in steamflooding injection. This research will be conducted using the simulation method using the STARS Computer Modeling Group (CMG) Software. In order to make the work easier and more efficient, this research uses a method from artificial intelligence (AI) called particle swarm optimization (PSO) to be able to optimize the parameters that affect RF & SOR values because PSO can work faster and have more optimum results than using only reservoir simulation. In steamflood injection, there are several parameters that affect RF & SOR values, namely steam quality, steam pressure, steam injection rate, injection volume, well spacing, and well pattern. Based on the simulation that has been done, on optimization using PSO (Reduced Quadratic), the best results are obtained in the 902th iteration with an RF value of 17.4769 and an SOR of 1.6102. compared to basecase RF increased by 6.6% and SOR only increased by 6.9%. While there is PSO (Reduced Linear), the best results are obtained after running on the 804th iteration with RF values of 17.5314 and SOR of 1.5952, experiencing an increase in RF of 6.9% and SOR only increasing by 5.9%. While the optimization only uses CMG, the RF increase is 7.2% and the SOR is 8.3%. With the following optimization results, injection rate 1250 bbl/day, injection volume 2282500 bbl, injection pressure 300 psia, injection temperature 550 oF, steam quality 0.9 and getting RF & SOR values of 17.5314 & 1.59525.
