Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in science learning outcomes between classes that apply the observation method assisted by video learning and classes that apply the lecture method to Class VIII students of SMP YLPI Pekanbaru in the 2019/2020 academic year. This research uses quantitative methods with a quasi experimental approach. The population is class VIII SMP YLPI Pekanbaru. The sample class was taken by using saturated sampling technique, namely the experimental class X1 was VIII.2 with 27 students and the experimental class X2 was VIII.1 with 28 students. Based on the descriptive data analysis, it was obtained that the average post-test learning outcomes of students in the experimental class X1 (VIII.2) the observation method assisted by the learning video = 84.82 and the experimental class X2 (VIII.1) lecture method = 78.88. Based on the Cognitive Value (PPK) in the experimental class X1 (VIII.2) the rocky observation method of learning video = 88.99 and the experimental class X2 (VIII.1) lecture method = 80.68, while the Psychomotor (KI) value in the experimental class X1 (VIII.2) the observation method assisted by the instructional video = 89.01 while in the X2 experiment class (VIII.1) the lecture method = 85.14. Based on the t-test analysis, it is known that t-count 2.86>t-table 2.001 with dk = 53 and level α = 0.05, then H1 is accepted and H0 is rejected, so it can be concluded that there are differences in science learning outcomes between classes that apply the observation method. With the help of video lessons with classes that apply the lecture method to class VIII students of SMP YLPI Pekanbaru in academic year 2019/2020. The cognitive learning outcomes of students who apply observational learning have a higher value than lectures.
