Abstract

This study aims to analyze: (1) the characteristics of female farmers in homestead farming, (2) the income generated from farmland farming, and (3) the contribution of women farmers' income to household income. This study used a survey method, in Kunto Darussalam District, Rokan Hulu Regency. Sampling was done by purposive sampling (intentionally), namely as many as 21 female farmers, with the criteria of cultivating a combination of long bean, corn and red chili plants. Data were analyzed descriptively qualitatively and quantitatively. The results showed: (1) The characteristics of female farmers show that female farmers are at the average productive age of 44 years, 10 years of education equivalent to high school / middle school, 5 dependents of the family, the area of the yard is relatively narrow average of 62.44 m2. (2) Net income from home land farming is Rp. 847,471 / year, with a total cost of Rp. 2,829,101 / year and gross income of Rp. 3,676,571 / year. While the income of a woman farmer is Rp. 2,699,022 / year, which was contributed from the farm income of 31.40% and the wages of women farmers by 68.60%. (3) Total household income is Rp. 63,910,451 / year. The contribution of female farming women to household income was 4.22% (<25%), which means it is classified as low.
