Abstract

Rheology and filtration loss is one of the important properties of mud that must be controlled by all oil and gas operations. The drilling fluid must be carefully formulated to avoid any adverse effects that will then occur in the productivity of the formation. Peanut Skin (KKT) has a water composition (9.5%), Ash (3.6%), protein (8.4%), cellulose (63.5%), lignin (13.2%) and fat (1.8%) That indicates that peanut skin has the potential to be used as an active carbon material. Activated carbon is a bridging material as a good filtration loss controller The research started by making activated carbon from KKT waste which is activated with 3 different activation temperature, namely 700, 800, 900 oC as additive in drilling mud. After conducting rheology tests include viscosity, plastic viscosity, yield point and gel strength. Further testing of the filtration loss and mud cake in the drilling mud by adding the active carbon additive of peanut skin with the active carbon composition of peanut skin 5 gr per sample. Once it is tested against the active carbon KKT, from the test results obtained on the mud samples with the addition of active carbon KKT of 5 gr which is activated at a temperature 900 oC better with the test result of plastic viscosity 5 cp, yield point 10 lb/100ft2, gel strength 0.4 lb/100ft2, volume filtrate 16 ml and mud cake 0.16 cm.
