Abstract

This type of research is a qualitative research with a descriptive analysis method. This study aims to describe and analyze the role of Olang-olang Dance in the traditional medicine (Bedike) of the Sakai Tribe, Kesumbo Ampai Village, Bathin Solapan District, Bengkalis Regency. The subjects of this study were 6 people consisting of tribal heads, community leaders, artists, Kumantan Bedike, village secretaries, and village public relations. Sources of data types are primary and secondary data. The data collection technique was done by means of observation, interview and documentation. The research title is the Role of Olang-olang Dance in the Traditional Medicine of the Sakai Tribe in Kesumbo Ampai Village, Bathin Solapan District, Bengkalis Regency, Riau Province. The formulation of the research problem is: what is the role of the Olang-olang dance in the traditional medicine of the Sakai tribe in Kesumbo Ampai village ?. With the aim of knowing the role of the Olang-olang dance in the traditional medicine of the Sakai tribe in Kesumbo Ampai village. According to Jazuli (1994), the role of dance in human life is to fulfill human needs. Human needs can be met through individual and social stimulants. Broadly speaking, the function of dance is divided into four parts, namely: dance as a means of ceremony, entertainment, performances and educational media. This research was conducted in February 2021. The results of this study are to have a role in bedike as a medium of notification to obtain healing instructions for sick people. This plays a greater role in the dance aspect as a means of ceremony and dance as a means of performance.
