Abstract

In this study, the researcher raised the free film which tells the story of friendship to be the subject of research. . The purpose of this research is to find out how friendship is represented in the film using Charles Sander Peirce's semiotic theory with a triangle model whose meaning consists of three main elements, namely signs, objects, and interpretants. This study uses a qualitative research method with a semiotic analysis approach. The technique used in this research is the source triangulation technique, which is a data validity checking technique that utilizes something other than the data for checking or comparison of the data such as interviews and observations. Data collection techniques using observation, documentation, and interviews. The results of this study indicate that the free film wants to convey a message to the public about the meaning of friendly relations by finding four components of friendship in each cut of the scene in the free film, namely, friendship's affective, social elements (sociability element), sharing and gathered (shared an communal), the quality of friendship.
