Abstract

Scale is the result of mineral deposition from formation water which is produced together with oil and gas. The formation of a scale on the equipment on the surface will result in obstruction of the petroleum production process which will result in losses. Usually the scale is chemically classified as a carbonate or sulfate type. Water analysis was carried out in order to determine the tendency of scale formation on the surface facility using the Stiff and Davis method. To carry out this analysis, the main material needed is a sample of formation water from the surface facility to find out the value of ion concentration, and to find the temperature and pH value, after the data has been collected, the data will be inputted into the prediction calculation software to find out the SI (saturation) value. index). The difference made in this study is to analyze water samples at the wash tank and outlet to water injection plant, where in previous studies, formation water sampling was usually done at the wellhead of each well. The importance of analyzing the wash tank and outlet to the water injection plant is as a first step to estimate and prevent the possibility of scale formation on surface equipment so that it will result in production failure and failure of the water injection process to be carried out. The results obtained from this study are that there is an effect of pH, temperature and ion concentration where the greater the pH and temperature values, the greater the scale index value that will be supported. Based on research conducted using a scale prediction calculation simulator, wash tanks that have lower pH and temperature levels (6.99, 71 oC) have a smaller saturation index value, namely 0.4577 compared to the saturation index value on a water injection plant that has a lower saturation index. pH and temperature levels are greater (7.28, 72 oC), namely 1.026. Meanwhile, the results obtained from water analysis in the laboratory show that the presence of calcium (Ca2+) and bicarbonate (HCO3-) is an indicator of scale forming ions
