Abstract

There are 3 methods of oil production, primary recovery, secondary recovery and tertiary recovery. The tertiary recovery method is used to maximize oil production that is still remaining in the reservoir using Enhanced Oil Recovery method. EOR method is used for increasing oil recovery by reducing the mobility of water as a pressing fluid for produce remaining oil that can not produce by water flooding. One of the methods is polymer flooding. Polymer used in the petroleum industry are classified into two main types, namely syntetic polymers and biopolymers. In the study of biopolymer founds in plants, can not be separated from the discovery of polysaccharide content. Polysaccharides have a function to increase the viscosity of the solution. In plants the content of polysaccharides is known as carbohydrates which are used as food reserves, one of which is found in corn starch. Therefore it is necessary to do further research to identify the characteristics of corn starch such as compatibility, density, viscosity and shear rate as initial parameters for making alternative polymers. Researcher will conduct test on polymer concentrations starting 500 ppm, 1.000 ppm, 1.500 ppm and 2.000 ppm. At temperatures of 70 oC and 80 oC respectively. As well as variations in brine salinity starting from 5.000 ppm, 30.000 ppm and 60.000 ppm. The process of processing corn uses an extraction method that produces the final product, corn starch with 100-150 mesh starch granula. Based on polymer compatibility testing, 22 compatible samples of corn starch and 6 samples of xanthan gum were obtained. Based on testing that is done about effect of concentration, salinity, temperature and shear rate on corn starch biopolymers and xanthan gum biopolymers, it can be concluded that the grater addition of polymer concentration, the viscosity and density values will increase. But the higher salinity, test temperature and shear rate, the viscosity will decrease
