Abstract

The combustion motor is a device that is used as a driving force, each combustion motor does not use all of the heat energy generated to drive the engine and the heat is wasted through the exhaust manifold. Therefore, we need a way so that the heat energy wasted from the exhaust manifold can be utilized. One of these methods is to convert the heat energy in the exhaust manifold into electrical energy using a thermoelectric generator. The aim is to determine the effect of the number and arrangement of the thermoelectric generators on the thermoelectric characteristics of the generator. This research method is carried out experimentally, namely testing the thermoelectric generator on three variations of the number of thermoelectric generators and variations in the arrangement of the thermoelectric generator and the thermoelectric generator affixed to the exhaust manifold wall. The results showed that the highest voltage, power, seebeck coefficient, charging results, and generator efficiency were found in the thermoelectric generator series with a total of 12 units. The series arrangement with 12 thermoelectic generators produces a voltage of 6.127 (V), a power of 5.76 (W), a seebeck coefficient of 0.220 (V / K), a charge of 9 (%), and a generator efficiency of 2.21 ( %). The greater the temperature difference (∆T) between the hot and cold sides of the thermoelectric generator, the greater the energy produced.
