Abstract
In the world of civil engineering construction that is built on peat soil, there are many problems that must be faced, such as the strength of the peat soil. This can cause losses to the existing construction on it. So it needs improvement to achieve the desired soil strength. The bio-grouting technique is one of the methods currently being applied as stabilization of peat soils. This study aims to find out how the effect of bio-grouting techniques on the free compressive strength of peat soil with the help of the bacterium Bacillus subtilis. The original soil was taken at the location of Buana Makmur Village km 55, Dayun District, Siak Regency, as additional material for sand, bacteria, and CaCl2 as well as uruea producers in Bandung. This research test method refers to the ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and SNI procedures. The test specimen is made from peat soil with a mixture of + 5% sand from the dry weight of the peat soil using a modified sondir tool with a cylinder shape and a diameter of 3.64 cm and a height of 10.75 cm2 made following standard compaction at an optimum moisture content of 157% with a total of 12 the test object. The free compressive strength test was carried out after the addition of bacteria with variations of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. The data obtained from the test results are processed in tables and graphs according to variations in the addition of bacteria. The results of testing the physical properties of the original soil show that the land in the village of Buana Makmur km 55, Dayun District, Siak Regency is the original soil type with a moisture content of 407.5% and specific weight (Gs) = 1.3. From the test results the free compressive strength of the sample of the original soil sample + 5% sand with variations in the mixture of bacterial cementation solutions at a percentage of 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25%. The value of the free compressive strength of the original soil test object + 5% sand is 0.30 kg/cm2, while with the addition of variations in bacteria 5% = 0.31 kg/cm2, 10% = 0.31 kg/cm2, 15% = 0, 42 kg/cm2, 20% = 41 kg/cm2, and 25% = 0.33 kg/cm2. The highest compressive strength value is found in the addition of 15% cementation solution of 0.42 kg/cm2 of the original soil sample + 5% sand, which has a free compressive strength value of 0.30 kg/cm2.
