Abstract

This study aims to determine the self-concept of fans of Korean drama shows in SMPN 3 Kandis Siak District. The show is a romantic drama that can be said as a dish that is quite interesting conversation that usually raises hot issues in society among adolescents. The problem in this study is how students' self-concepts and the factors that influence them. In this study using qualitative research methods. This research uses snowball sampling technique, which is a technique for determining the sample which is initially small in number, then grows more and more. There were 10 informants in this study and were 3 junior high school students who had watched the Korean drama. Data collection techniques using observation, interviews and documentation. The results of this study indicate that most of the 10 students have 5 positive self-concepts that provide an assessment of the communication style of an actor and 5 negative self-concepts that provide an assessment of how to imitate the appearance of an artist. This is due to the lack of self-awareness of the importance of rules and self-discipline, as well as the influence of parental education and environmental influences derived from friends, relatives, which can affect individual self-concepts.
