Abstract

Students who are able to face an academic difficulty and use appropriate coping skills will succeed in forming resilience in themselves, but if not, it will have an impact on resignation and drop out. School engagement is thought to be a factor that affects academic resilience in students. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between school engagement and academic resilience in Riau Islamic University students. The samples in this study were 400 students of the Islamic University of Riau, which were determined using the cluster sampling technique. The data collection method in this research is using the School Engagement Measure (SEM) scale which consists of 15 items and the Academic Resilience (ARS-Indonesia) scale which consists of 24 items. The results of statistical analysis using the Pearson's product moment correlation test show that there is a significant positive relationship between school engagement and academic resilience in Riau Islamic University students, with an r value of 0.371 and a sig value. 0.000. This means that the higher the school engagement, the higher the academic resilience of Riau Islamic University students.
